Creativity

If we think in same way there is no excitement, creativity needed to express your view in different than others. Creativity thinking will come by involving in creative way. Mr.Burli made us to think in logical way that is different kinds of making creativity like, drawing images with in minute , and narrating story which uncompleted by others, same story created different three types. It shows that how each person can think creatively and very different from others. Those can be written in blog, then it make others to read, before I was adding only events which was happened in Deshpande foundation and all our fellows blog looking same and dull, it should be something excitement to read.

The picture can say more words rather than writing report, that image also be come out creatively, what we want say draw and describe, then it gives strength to our blog. Some time we know many option in ppt, but we not use in proper way, we have to use all animation which we are about to express in creative way. Mr Burli shows his project ppt, it was giving clear meaning with animation. That shows how person use his creativity to present their thought. Everyone can use ppt to present but not in creative manner.

Through the creating e-mail tree I got an idea to create logo for my business, before I was postponing from ten days to create, because I was thinking to make it different, today I created with in 10 minute with good logo about my Auto business plan. For creativity will not take more time it comes by brain, just image your self don’t look at others it will be wonderful.

Every Problem has solution

One fine day a girl had exam. She studied very well and she got up in the morning she was getting ready for exam. Call came from her friend that’s she was waiting in bus stop, so that girl was in hurry to reach bus top, for her exam center she had to get down in a two stop and change the bus, after getting down from bus in a stop. Strike was started all things stopped no bus was moving, shops was closed even she was not getting phone booth to call family members to inform the message because she was hoping any one may come and pick up her. Already her friend went to exam hall but she could not.

Her mind was blocked she was not getting what to do if she did not go to exam her academic year may lose that was final year. She had big aim. It was effecting on her life, either she was not able to go neither exam center nor house. She was on mid way people were fighting each other near bus stop. She feared lot but she could not do anything.

That was very horrible situation she was thinking, thinking and thinking then she got an idea that because of strike government bus was stopped but not bike. She went to her friend brother and asked about bike. Even in other village also strike was going that she had to pass then she planned to go near to that village after that she walked for 2 kilo meter and she got another bike that she called her father friend to drop her to collage. She reached to exam hall already time was over. Exam was started she got 10 min late to attend the exam. How she had felt she straggle lot to attend exam after reaching there also she was not able attend the exam. Again she thought she saw wall clock which was in exam hall. There was still 20 sec, but according examiner time was crossed above 10 min. she argued with examiner she got permission to write exam. If there is a problem solution should be there.

Hepatitis –B Vaccination Camp

The Vaccination camp organized by Deshpande foundation fellows on 25th April 09, this is an activity of fellowship program. The Deshpande Foundation is one of the leading charitable foundations in India. It is in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship and international development.

Hepatitis –b is a deadly viral disease caused by the hepatitis-B virus that attacks the liver and can cause both acute chronic diseases and it affects people by causing swelling, cirrhosis and cancer to the liver. Globally around 6, 00,000 people are dying every year. In India infection rate is 2 to 7%. It can be p

revented only by vaccination.

So fellows planned to take vaccination, instead of taking themselves they arranged camp for people and student of BVB college, through this they wanted to cover 1000 students and  to aware about Hepatitis-B.

They made awareness in BVB campus, Jabin College, MBA College, Law College, and   in Vidyanaga and Devinagar, Hubli.  Fellows group was divided in small group to success the camp, that is fundraising, inauguration, banner applying,

card making, awareness making, media and food arrangement etc groups. With the support of all groups vaccination camp inau

gurated on 25th April 09, at 9.45 am on Saturday.

The Chief guest Mr.Shivand a Joshi, a veteran journalist, Dr. B.F.Appannawar, faculty of community medicine, SDM, Dhawad and Dr. Chetan Jayadeva. Chief guest were inaugurated camp by lighting the lamp, Mr.Shivanad Joshi gave speech,  now days  girls are working in all field also in journalism,  if we want to do anything we should have knowledge about that project otherwise no one will succeed. Communication is a key especially who is working in development sector. We should aware about what is happening

in our State, Nation and in world, not only politics health also. We should know our inner resource, realizing our self is great then only we can achieve our goal. By vaccination we con not lose anything, it helps us to keep our health in good manner.

NGO are working better then government, the government of our country has lot of resource, they give well salary to the employee and all facility to the  employee, but in organization they do not have fund, resource, facili

ty to employee to implement project, although they achieve their goal, only difference is in attitude. NGOs are more honest, sincere and they take care of people by their heart.  He requested to prevent Hepatitis-B together.

Dr.B.F.Appannawar address the people by how hepatitis spread, it spread through blood or other infection body fluids such as saliva, semen and vaginal fluid. This spreads like HIV only, it is not spread by air, food or water and transmission from an infected mother to her baby usually at the time the baby is born. He encouraged making such type programs, by using leadership qualities.

After inauguration, vaccination, Counseling, blood testing and vaccination has started with the support SDM college doctors, councilor and blood test team.  It covered 100 people successfully.

5 k Challenge

Our core business was Saree selling. For this business I did market study with co-fellows, and I visited 4 to 5 whole-sale shops for understanding the market and to know more about the product.  Next day my business partner went for market study, after this we went together for purchasing the product.  Before going to the shop we planned about business investment, and we decided to invest only half money of the principal amount. We also decide, If we able to sell all sarees then we purchase more sarees. We purchased different variety and price of sarees that we could sale to different type of people.

We planned to sale like guerrilla market strategy, but while marketing we failed to use that strategy. We went door to door to sale and first day within 2 hours I sold 4 sarees with high profit , because I had different varieties of sarees. I convinced very easy to the people, but after two days it was very difficult to sale.  People were asking us different color and variety with less cost, so I had to walk for long to search customers. If I approach sarees they were asking me for dress material then I went with other co-fellows who had dress material to sell. But when I visited along with dress material and sarees both that time customers were demanding for ready-made not dress material. Always customers’ choice is very different than what we assume.

After four days we were struggling to sale remaining product because well quality and well color sarees were sold.  Some customers were giving order for sarees but time was close to deadline to do this business so we could not take order.

I think going door to door is waste of time and our energy. On last day I spent 3 hours and could able to sell only one saree. Then I was thinking if I had opened a shop with other material they would have come to me and purchased according to their choice.

Advocacy

Guest Speaker Mr. Abhaya

On Saturday, 11th  April 2009.

Introduction

Mr.Abhaya born and brought up in Hyderabad, He studied Engineering in electronics. He worked for MNC in Bangalore for 5 years and left the job by inspiring   himself to overcome social issues. So he went to Raichur and settled to work especialy on   Devadasi System.

Devadasi System

He made people to aware themselves and people got inspired, formed “Nava Jeevana Mahila Okkuta “(NJMO).  This is non -registered people’s organization, mainly they are working for Dalits and women in villages. Till now they have covered 100 villages around the Raichur district.

Advocacy

It means identifying the social problem and making government and people to aware and solves it.  Advocacy should be done by people who affected by the  issue, understanding the issue theoretical and practical aspects both in local contents and in other parts of country and the world.believe in the issue as belief in the strategy is important.grass root level work on the issue, both activism and constructive involvement.to work along with the media and not use the media.data collection and presentation should be human, not just statistics.to always have the goals broke down in to short term, medium term and long term demands, understanding of the government administrative machinery and way of working is very important, should have well wishes in all fields, proper use of all forums available sensitive days of year and reacting to important events is very essential, regular follow-ups is a very important, attack the issue simultaneously from many fronts, also one is some required to take two steps back and then move ahead, always fight for issue not people responsible. (Reference: Abhaya).

Advocacy is a process to reach a goal, he done advocacy in village with support by people, for example village does not have road, by involving people approaching the government and another example is open deficacy is a common problem in villages for women, so by involving people they approached the government and constructed the toilets.

The local people and media are supporting them for every cause always. The most of stake holders always fight the issue not the people responsible, leave the issue and attacking people is bad strategy to advocacy. He never attack the people, he always fought for issue.

Agricultre Module

Introduction

Agriculture means the production of food through farming or forest. With 60 per cent of India's population directly engaged in agriculture, the real motivation to the economy can come only if the focus moves to agriculture. In agriculture two types conventional agriculture and sustainable agriculture.

The AME foundation is working for sustainable agriculture. Now it covered three districts they are Bijapur, Chittardurga and Bellary. Mr.Shashikant Introduced about AME foundation. Mr.Pattenshetty, Mr.Desai and Miss. Sangeeta patil were present. After that we gave our introduction.

Module Description

India is the 2nd largest country in production of rice and wheat. It also produces vegetables, mangoes, bananas and onion.  It exports fresh fruit and vegetables to other countries. It used many technologies to develop farming in agriculture and in the year 1960 Green revolution in wheat and paddy, horticulture revolution in high value crop and white revolution in milk sectors are used for development in farming.

Rural situation is very difficult to survive, the rural people face many problems such as poverty, hung

er, illiteracy, poor health, sanitation and migrating from village to urban areas.  In order to produce more and improve the quality, they need costly inputs such as chemical fertilizers and artificial feeds, which make their farming activities uneconomic. All these reasons are making farmer to do suicide. Over 16,600 farmer suicides in 2007 .The broad trends of the past decade seem unshaken. Farmer suicides in the country since 1997 now total 182,936, but the real causes behind this devastation remain unaddressed. (Reference: News).

We had video session about farmer suicides. After that we discussed about climate change. This Change will impact on production of crops like rice, wheat and other crops. Many Indian farmers depend on rainfall. If doesn’t rain on time production of crop would not happen. We discussed about LEISA, it means Low External Input Sustainable Agriculture. How to get more yield by using low external input in agriculture and usage of natural resources. On 13th  we were on field visit to Inamirapura and Kurdikeri. I visited agriculture exhibition in Inamirapur with my friends. I observed diffe

rent types compost, it is made by using natural check resources. I also observed soil fertility testing, different types of seeds and Ajola.

Later we visited Kurdikeri village, there we met Farmers Field School (FFS).It is informal education at school for farmers. There were 10 male and 10 female farmers present. They learn many things practically. First they do Agro Eco-System Analysis (AESA), farmers divide their group in to small groups then they go to analyze the plant. They select some plants and they search enemy insect, friend insect, climate, flowers, leaf and pets in AESA method. We followed the farmers we did analysis about Brinjal plant in ASEA method with farmers.  We caught enemy insect and pets in box. We counted leaf, flowers and Brinjals. We ca

me back and discussed with other and presented. There after other group has presented.

We played a game with farmers. It was enjoyable game, the moral story of this game is impossible will be possible by doing work with group, in a team we should cooperate, appreciate and encourage each other. Lastly our team won the game. On 14th March we had debate on Path to progress – Ru

ral economy v/s Industrial economy. I was in Industrial economy. It was one hour debate. Every one participated very well. I got much idea from debate.  Finally our team has convinced well to rural economy team. Finally we have discussed about Integrated farming System (IFS). The IFS has revolutionized

 Conventional Farming of Livestock.

Key Points: Conventional agriculture,  Sustainable agriculture,  Agriculture V/s Livestock,    Integrated farming System (IFS).

Right to Information Act, 2005

Introduction

On first day we have discussed about RTI act.  It comes into force on the 12th October, 2005 (120th day of its enactment on 15th June, 2005). It applies to all state in India exclude Jammu Kashmir.

Any Indian citizen can get information from any Govt. office under RTI Act. Information means any material in any form including records, documents, memos, e-mails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data material held in any electronic form and information related office.

Right to information means

We can inspect works, Records & documents.  We can get extract copies from document & also we get sample of material.

Public Authority

It is made by or under constitution or it made by law parliament, it is made by law state Legislature and order made by Government.

Later we discussed about sections Suo-Muto under Sec 4(1)(b)  &  specific information under Sec(6)(1) availed  under the RTI Act 2005. Suo-Muto is self declaration that means, it provides detail information of the department that covers 17 points under the Act.  Example Details of employees, Budget & responsibilities. The Sec(6)(1) provides any specific information that is required under any department by paying a nominal fee of Rs.10 either by  PO, Cheque & DD.

After that we discussed some important points what PIO is. Any administration must have Public information officer. No fees will charged by BPO & No charge for Suo-Muto.

Learning:

We got opportunity to learn Act through experienced practically. In that I learnt how to face real life challenges. First day I went to file Suo-Muto for HDMC. There was separate office for PIO. So I went there but there was no PIO.  Then I met other person   Revenue officer He was asking me to give Rs.10 for getting Suo-Muto.  I had knowledge about sec[4(1)(b)  so told him I told him clearly I won’t give money  for that. After that he enquired higher authority then he took it is in inward section. Later I met Asst. Commissioner I got Suo-Muto with in an hour.

In Nehru Yuva Kendra office & Forest office at Dharawad they didn’t give good response. Even though this act came in 2005 some officers didn’t know about Suo-Muto. I convinced higher officers making them to read whole RTI Act 2005 & made it successful.

Now, I am able to tell this Act to others by street play.  We conducted our street play at Devinagar Hubli, about Drainage to file under RTI.  The residences of Devinagar are going to do file under RTI act. They have applied many times to HDMC but they didn’t take any action. They became very happy knew this Act.

Leadership Activity

When we travelled in local buses, we found something we are hesitating to inform to the respective responsible persons. But one day we were seriously discussing about social issues. And we have decided to convert social issues into Leadership Activities. By which we will be able to inform the responsibility of Government build awareness in people.

So we have listed some social issues out of which the first one is here with innovative results. Firstly we have gone to inform the NWSRTC (North Western State Road Transport Corporation) Officer but they have confused us to whom we have to contact and who is the right person? But finally we have decided whether they give permission or not but we will do it. And with that intention yesterday we went to Central Office with Written document and Questionnaire for the public opinion. We have given them the written document and got the acknowledgement. From their when we have stepped into Bus we started. The first lady who took this Questionnaire she said that, “I was waiting for such kind of activities from students like you”.  So that was the best response we have got and we went to old bus stand of Hubli because our target is “Problems facing in local buses by public”. We have got very nice response from people by which we have understood that we are able to understand the minds of people. Because we have prepared the questionnaire considering, those people who are travelling everyday and facing the same problems. We have met mainly School and College Students, Job holders, and Senior citizens.

Questions are as follows: 1) Do the Buses are coming on time? 2) Do the Conductors, Drivers and Officers executing their duties properly? 3) Are the Buses stopping on respective places? 4) Do the conductor cooperating in providing seats to the Ladies? 5) Do the Buses are keeping clean? 6) Please write your suggestions:Statistical data on above Questions:

SUGGESTIONS: Conductor should take responsibility in providing seats to the senior citizens n ladies ,   Should decrease the pass rate. More buses should be there with right time by well administration, Technical improvement should be there in buses.     The buses should stop on specific stops, the conductor, drivers’ n officers should behave pleasantly n cooperative,      Cleanliness has to be maintained,     Need to be more improvemen,Bus should go slowly  Smoking should be avoided strictly,      Mobile phone usage should be avoided, Facilities are good in NWSRTC, Public cooperation in maintaining bus clean &  Public cooperation in reserve seats.

Leadership Activity for Blind Children

We performed leadership activity on 15 Feb 09 in the Evening Vidya Nagar.

We wanted to help blind children of Siddharudha Mutt. When we met them first time by conducting games we realized their hidden talents. They are facing challenging life but they are extraordinary children we decided to build their future and betterment of their life. We are collecting money for the welfare of blind children. So we all are Gayatri ,Meenakshi, Chandrashekhar & Savita  have visited  door to door to collect money. The response from people was good. We have collected around Rs 600 to 700.  We did not open the box because we have planned to continue same activity for next 2-3 weeks, after that we will open & we will give some valuable brile kit or cloth to Blind children.

In the evening at 5.00pm we have gone door to door & shops. While collecting money we met different type of people. Many people have given good response. While they were putting money into the box we all were became happy. Before we thought no one will agree to contribute because many people have cheated by using social work name. But we are working heartily & honestly. Who one understands our feelings like that we were thinking in hostel our friends encouraged us to move forward. Only few people (2-4) thinking to give money.  Someone told they are helping directly to children why they have to give us. Then we replied one person can’t do big help if you collect one side it become big strength to do work like that we convinced people later they have given happily.

Village study

First day we visited Gram chetan, it’s a nice place covered by lot of trees. Mr. Deepak Kshira Sagar introduced us about Gram chetan  & he shared  his experience with people participation. Participatory building of people is very important its not build within a day. Initial they faced many problems to work with people. While selecting the people they didn’t have any restriction.   With support of community they built check dam at Harogere. He shared other examples as well.

Conducted PRA At Kamplikoppa:

We have visited  to Kappalikoppa to conduct PRA. The community people welcomed us applying   color turmeric powder & turmeric powder.   We were divide in 5 groups. Each team was going to do different activity such as Resource mapping, Seasonality Mapping for income & migration, Venn diagram, FGD on milk production.  Matrix rank for compost. We conducted Time line on sanitation.  Then we can understand PRA practically. After that I moved to Kamaplikoppa along with my co-fellows. We had practical experience of the PRA. I have been in Seasonality mapping. We did the seasonality map for income & migration.  There is very less migration because they depend on irrigation land. & they will get job at VRL it is very near to Villagers.

After coming back from village we have enjoyed by dancing, singing & making jokes  with our sir Naveen Jha, Chinnababu & all classmate.

Village Study at Naganur:

The Naganur village is comes under Khalgatigi Taluk, Shurshetti Koppa Panchyath of Dharwad district. It is 25 KM away from Hubli city. Only road transportation available for this village. Our team members and me visited this village on 11th and 12th of Feb 2009.

History of the village:

‘Nagnur’ means village of snakes. We got different stories from the people regarding village history. One of the elders said that the village was called Laxmipura after that it changed to Yalghatigi Nagnur and Nagnur. Other sources said that some body found Nagalinga in the village long back that is why villagers named Nagnur.

Transect Walk

On 11th Feb 2009 in the morning we went to Nagnur by walk it is 2km from Grama chetan, road was not good.  On the way we saw ground nuts, cotton, and sugarcane & sunflower crops in field. When we entered in the village Coconut trees welcomed us to village in front every houses.  We met some youths &   old men few of them helped us for transect walk. We observed that houses are built very systematically side by side.  In the entrance of the village there are houses built in the planned way given by Govt.   Roads are very big. Majority houses are Kachha houses.

When we at entered the village people were busy with their works.  They were waiting for bus at Basavan temple, some people   were   going to the field, and others are having tea at hotel & children were playing in front   of community hall.  There are 5 temples in the village; Basavan Temple, Devamamman Temple, Hanuman Temple & Durgamman temple. There is a primary school, an Anganwadi , community hall, Milk Dairy,  Panchayath  office. There is a Durga.  Village was clean. Everyone has drawn rangoli in front of their houses.  It shows their indigenous knowledge, local customs & practices.  Rapport building was main challenge for us. As soon as we entered the village we initiated rapport building.

When we met people our team members were saying “ Namskara “ to  villagers. We clearly explained them reason for coming to their village. Afternoon we visited field we collected some information regarding soil and crops.

It was the late evening when we started our activities because people still returning from the fields. Later we gathered the people for social mapping.

Focus Group Discussion

We conducted focus discussion group in the evening. We have collected information about health & sanitation.    But, gathering pople is very difficult. When we called people no one came because they were busy with their work & they neglected us. So we have gone to apply kunkuma door to door & someone we met on road we applied them. We told them to gather round in public place.  After gathering Mrs.Jayashree villagers sang welcome song. Later we discussed.

Social Map

A A social map has helped us to understand about Nagnur village. This map  is drawn by village people  and which shows the social structures and institutions found in an area. It also helped us to learn who is living where & about where is  temples, school, Community hall, Anganwadi & other offices.social map has helped us to understand about Nagnur village. This map  is drawped us to learn who is living where,  where is  temples, school, Community hall, Anganwadi & other offices.

Time Line:Our team has decided to draw the time line map.   Mainly our targeted group was women and we called them traditional way putting KUNKUM on their forehead. And we did time line comparative study between situations in 1970 periods and now.  Before 1970 the cholera, pelage & T.B like that disease was there. But, now AIDS, Cancer & Chicken gunny.  Everyone believed on Ayurvedic treatment. Before 1970 they didn’t have hospital facility, Toilets, Pure water facility, Transport facility & Schools. Now they have school so every child getting literacy, they are growing other crops like suppota trees & mango trees, everything has changed the ladies didn’t not know about bank but now they can easily do bank transaction.  Like that there village has changed.

Matrix Ranking : we conducted matrix ranking on  compost. by this we understood diffrent types of compost. which compost they will use more & which is the good.

Resource Mapping :The Resource map has helped us to learn about community & its resource base.  To learn the villagers perception of what natural resource are found in the community and how they are using.    We started in the next day morning after gathering people we have introduced about resource map we have given rangoli powder to draw. We also took care about involving people.  They have drawn water source, different type of soils, Hills, roads, lake, & grazing land.

Secondary Data collection

For collecting secondary data we have visited Anganwadi, Panchayt, Milk Dairy, and Mahasangha & Village Accountant. In that village 1390 population are living 686 male & 704 are female. The voters are 891. It has 360 families. Only one house is Pakka remaining all are kachha house. Big formers are 5, Medium formers are 132 & small formers are 172.  The total land is 1982.2 Hectors.

Observation:Female population is very high, mentally challenged children and village was clean

Summary:We had village study. we conducted PRA in Nagnur village of Kalgatgi Talku Dharawad dist. This exercise helped in understanding village situation, developing the rapport with the villagers, their overall developmental & if you want implement any project involvement of people is very important.
